Church of Taguluche

The surrounding of the church Ermita de Taguluche is a beautiful recreation area, located on the northwest coast of La Gomera, more or less near Alojera and Epina.

It is a great place for a relaxed day, surrounded by green mountainsides you can make a barbecue or walk down to the rocky beach and have a refreshing swim.

Description

Taguluche is a rural hamlet which belongs to the municipality of Valle Gran Rey, which is about 35km away from it, which is about 1 hour by camper. Taguluche is a beautiful place worth a visit or to spend a quiet night.

A small road leads from the main road in Epina down towards Taguluche. During the ride on the winding road one can already enjoy great views to the sea.

The paved church square of Ermita de Taguluche is well-equipped with barbecues and toilets, which can be used all year round without restrictions. From up there, you can get to a small natural rocky beach by taking a half-hour walk.

In Taguluche there are several interesting places, set between breathtaking mountains in the northwest of La Gomera, located at about 100m above sea level. Here, peace and silence are constant companions and in the evening one can experience some of the most beautiful sunsets of La Gomera.

There is no doubt, Taguluche is a place where you can enjoy a very special camper experience in absolute quiet surroundings.

Activities in the surroundings

Taguluche is great location for several hiking trails that are to be mentioned for their breathtaking views.

For example, there is a round-trip in direction to Arure along the trail Las Vueltas, which leads down to the church Ermita de San Salvador. Once you are there, you can hike to the plateau of Merca (La Merica), from where you have a gigantic view down to the Valle Gran Rey with the sea in the background. This route is about 15km.

Another option is the round trip from Taguluche to Alojera, where you could visit the Information Center Centro de interpretación de la miel de palma where you can learn about the delicious palm tree syrup. This route is about 10 km.

The geology of the area is remarkable, at some points you can clearly see the eroded dykes in the mountains.

Tips & useful information

In the upper part of the village you can get groceries in a combined restaurant-bar with shop.

On the beach of Taguluche one should be cautious and only take a swim when the currents aren’t too strong. Also one has to consider the different tides.

The traditonal celebrations of Taguluche take place every year at the end of August, when locals gather around the church square to honour their patron saint with traditional activities such as music and dance.
